Understanding iMIS queries

Queries are a central concept in iMIS. They are used to extract data from the database, but they also drive many application elements. For example, queries are used as the source for Lister displays, and they are also used as the data source for Crystal reports. Queries are also used as the basis for many user interface elements, through the Lister control. Query definitions are stored in the Document system.

The tool for working with queries is Interactive Query Architect. The user interface makes it easy for a user with limited SQL experience to perform SQL-like, query-building tasks. The queries created in IQA use business objects and other queries as data sources. Queries can be simple, using a single source; or they can be complex, with multiple sources and different types of joins. Role-based security controls access to queries.

Users can access IQA from the iMIS Home page, a personal folder, or from the Generate reports page within .NET modules such as Opportunity Management. For administrator-level users, IQA is accessible from the iMIS Framework Console.
