Changes to IQA security

IQA security has been expanded to cover its access to business objects through the new Advanced Query links on the Home page and in the Customers, Events, and Orders modules. This security is consistent with iMIS security.

Three new iMIS Server .NET security groups have been created:

New groups automatically assigned during upgrade

Existing iMIS users are automatically assigned to these new security groups during the upgrade to iMIS 10.6 based on their current iMIS security access:

Assigning the correct security groups to new iMIS users

Whether users can see the Advanced Query links on the Home page or on the Customers, Events, and Orders tabs is dependent only on their iMIS authorization levels, not on their iMIS Server .NET security groups. However, whether users can view the rows returned by queries that reference Event, Fund Raising, or Order business objects is dependent on their iMIS Server .NET security groups.

You must therefore ensure that your iMIS Server .NET administrator assigns new users to the EventUser, FRUser, and OrderUser security groups as needed.

New IQA Security Report

A new IQA Security Report has been added to the common reports in the Central Object Repository (and is also accessible from the Generate Reports link on the Home page). This report lists all members of the new security groups. See IQA Reports for more information.

New Security tab on business objects

A new Security tab has been added to the Business Object window, which enables you to define granular security for specific business objects that iMIS users will now be able to access through the new Advanced Query links on the Home page and in the Customers, Events, and Orders modules.

For example, you might define a new query that is available to all iMIS users who have access to the Customers module, but one of the query sources might be a business object to which you have restricted access to a small group of users. The query can still be safely used by other users who do not have access to that particular business object, because the query results will not display properties from that business object to those restricted users. Similarly, if a given user has the authority to create new queries, but they are not authorized for access to a particular business object, then they will not be able to view that business object in the list of possible sources for the query.
