Installing iMIS Analytics

You can install iMIS Analytics in a two-tier or single-tier configuration. See Basic concepts for your IT staff to determine which configuration is best for your implementation of iMIS Analytics. See System requirements for requirements for each configuration.

Before you begin

To install iMIS Analytics

  1. If you are installing iMIS Analytics from the iMIS Server Install CD (or downloaded CD image), perform the following steps:
    1. From the iMIS Server Install CD (or downloaded CD image), run the setup.exe program to start the iMIS Installer.

The iMIS Installer Home window appears.

    2. Select Install products.

      The Install Server page appears.

    3. Select iMIS Analytics.

The iMIS Analytics - InstallShield Wizard appears.

  2. If you are installing iMIS Analytics from a web download, perform the following steps:
    1. Download the imis_analytics_v1_0.exe file from the ASI Tech Support page (Product Releases > iMIS Analytics > iMIS Analytics v 1.0).
    2. Double-click the imis_analytics_v1_0.exe file.

The self-extracting file opens an unzip dialog that enables you to choose a location for the unzipped product files.

    3. Click Unzip.
    4. Use Windows Explorer to open the folder into which you unzipped the product files.
    5. Double-click the setup.exe file.

The iMIS Analytics - InstallShield Wizard appears.

  3. Click Next.

The Choose Destination Location page appears.

  4. (optional) Click Browse to specify a different folder in which to install the iMIS Analytics program files.
  5. Click Next.

The Database Server Login page appears.

  6. Specify the login credentials for the local default instance of SQL Server iMIS Analytics host.
    1. In the Database Server field, enter (Local).
    2. In the Connect Using area, select the SQL Server authentication using Login ID and password below option.
    3. In the Login ID field, enter the System Administrator login (sa) for the local default instance of SQL Server on the iMIS Analytics host.
    4. In the Password field, enter the System Administrator password for the local default instance of SQL Server on the iMIS Analytics host.
  7. Click Next.

The iMIS Source Database page appears.

  8. In the iMIS DB field, enter one of the following strings, depending on whether you are installing iMIS Analytics in a one-tier or two-tier configuration:
    • One-tier configuration: Enter iMISdbname.dbo, where iMISdbname is the name of the iMIS database on the iMIS Analytics host.
    • Two-tier configuration: Enter [linkedServerName].iMISdbname.dbo, where linkedServerName is the linked server name that you defined in Creating a linked server definition for two-tier configurations, and where iMISdbname is the name of the iMIS database on the linked server. The special characters [ and ] must surround the linked server name to prevent issues caused by non-alpha characters or directory separators that are common in some linked server names.

For example, if the linked server name is "my_imisServer" and the iMIS database on that linked server is named "my_imisDb", then you would enter [my_imisServer].my_imisdb.dbo.

  9. Click Next.

The Start Copying Files page appears.

  10. Verify that your installation parameters are correct, and then click Next.

The Setup Status page displays the status of the setup program as it progresses. When the setup is complete, the InstallShield Wizard Completed page appears.

  11. Click Finish.

The following iMIS Analytics components are created on the iMIS Analytics host:

    • A new data warehouse named Analytics is created in the local default instance of SQL Server.
    • A new Data Transformation Services (DTS) package named Update iMIS Analytics and a related SQL Server Agent job named Update Analytics are created in the local default instance of SQL Server.
    • A new analysis database named iAnalytics is created in Analysis Services.
    • An HTML Help file named Analytics.chm, which describes the data warehouse architecture, is created in the docs folder of the iMIS Analytics program folders (usually C:\Program Files\ASI\Analytics).
    • A briefing book named iMIS Analytics.bbk, designed for use with ProClarity Professional, is created in the data folder of the iMIS Analytics program folders.
  12. Populate the data warehouse and analysis database with an initial set of iMIS data by manually running the Update iMIS Analytics DTS package. See Manually running the Update iMIS Analytics DTS package.
  13. (optional) Modify the default schedule of the Update Analytics job. See Changing the scheduled run time of the Update iMIS Analytics DTS package.
  14. Test your installation by viewing the iMIS Analytics data cubes with an OLAP viewer to ensure that they are populated with your iMIS data. See Analyzing iMIS business performance with the IMIS Briefing Book.
  15. Install the iMIS Analytics Briefing Book on each client computer that will be using ProClarity Professional to analyze data in iMIS Analytics. See Installing the iMIS Analytics Briefing Book on client computers.
