The card authorization process

Card authorization allows you to accept a credit/debit card payment from a customer and, within a matter of seconds, have the card transaction approved over the Internet by your bank. You also have the option of having transactions deferred for authorization at a later time.

Credit card authorization includes these steps:

  1. A customer calls to purchase a product or service.
  2. Payment information is entered and transmitted over the Internet to a card authorization gateway.
  3. The bank approves (or declines) the transaction.
  4. The payment service generates the transaction status.
  5. If the transaction is authorized, the funds are captured automatically.
