Concepts and Terms: Segmentation

Segmentation Security Groups

SegAdmin group

Security group for segmentation administrators. Users must be assigned to this group in order to access Segmentation with Administrator privileges.

Segmentation Administrator

A member of the SegAdmin group. Can set up and administer segmentation security and can perform administrative tasks such as purging inactive segmentation jobs.

SegMgr group

Security group for segmentation managers. Users must be assigned to this group in order to access Segmentation with Manager privileges.

Segmentation Manager

A member of the SegMgr group. By default, can create, edit, and delete segmentation jobs and segment definitions. Additional privileges can be assigned at the individual job level by the Segmentation administrator.

SegUser group

Security group for segmentation users. Users must be assigned to this group in order to access Segmentation with User privileges.

Segmentation User

A member of the SegUser group. By default, has read-only access to the Segmentation module. Additional privileges can be assigned at the individual job level by the Segmentation administrator.

Campaign

An organized set of efforts and source codes created to accomplish the same marketing goal.

For example, a campaign named Building can be set up to raise $500,000 for the building fund.

Contact list

A set of contact records based on a segment definition. The list may contain all of the results returned by a query, may be part of an n-Select segment, or may be a random selection of records returned by a query.

Contact record

The information for an individual contact from a contact list.

n-Select segments

A portion of the entire population that is the target for a campaign. The results returned by a selection filter are divided into a number (n) of segments, with the same number of contacts or prospects in each segment.

For example, if there are 75 contacts returned, you can specify three segments with 25 contacts in each segment.

Prospect list

A set of prospect records based on a segment definition. The list may contain all of the results returned by a query, may be part of an n-Select segment, or may be a random selection of records returned by a query.

Prospect record

The information for an individual prospect from a prospect list.

Query segment

Segment populated by a query assigned to the segment. A query segment can be optionally populated with the specified number of random records returned by the query.

Segment definition

The specifications for an individual segment within a segmentation job. A segment definition can be a query segment or an n-Select segment.

Segmentation job

A mechanism for establishing all of the segments in a marketing campaign. This allows segments to be added, deleted, and tested. The segments can then be assigned to individual source codes and created in one process rather than individually creating each segment.

Universe query

Defines the entire population of contacts for a segmentation job. When a universe query is present, a contact must be a member of the universe query for the contact to be included in any of the segments within the segmentation job.
